April 30th dawned overcast and cool; however, by the time noon approached and the doors opened at Ateres Chaya for the Bikur Cholim Chesed Organization’s Annual Luncheon & Auction, the room was permeated with warmth and good cheer. Ladies Auxiliary Presidium Esther Biberfeld, Leah Kahan and Sarah Tannenbaum welcomed the overflow crowd who came to show support for the renowned chesed organization. Preparing for sleepaway camp is a daunting task for any parent. Compound that with the fact that we are talking about families with dysfunction, poverty and other issues and the task becomes overwhelming. Bikur Cholim’s Family Crisis Intervention Program addresses this need by providing Camp Packs.
This year the Family Crisis Intervention Program Staff consisted of fourteen interns. Coming from various graduate schools within the New York area, including LIU, NYU, Fordham, Touro, Adelphi, and Hunter these interns were assigned to families in our community, as well as Yeshivos and Bais Yaakov schools. They guided families who are facing challenges such as marital discord, children with social or emotional deficits, and at-risk teens. Read More
